Henrietes Acain Wins Php 1M Guaranteed Tournament in Cebu

Local poker player Henrietes Acain took home first prize at last weekend’s Php 1,000,000 guaranteed tournament at the All-In Poker Sports Club in Cebu, Philippines.

Acain, who hails from the nearby island province of Siquijor, overcame a field of top players from Cebu and the rest of the Philippines to win the Php 350,000 in total prizes. He was awarded Php 200,000 in prize money as well as a package to the upcoming APT Philippines 2010 main event worth Php 150,000.

On the last hand of the tournament, with blinds at 20,000/40,000, Acain made a button raise of 80,000 and was called by Jeff Clair, his heads-up opponent. When the flop came {2-Clubs} {a-Diamonds} {7-Spades}, Jeff shoved his stack all-in and Acain made the call after a few moments of deliberation.

Jeff showed {10-Clubs} {2-Hearts}for flopped bottom pair but Acain was just a notch higher as he tabled {q-Clubs} {7-Clubs}.

The turn and river did not help either player, sending Clair out in second place and giving Acain the championship. For his runner-up finish, Clair received Php 175,000 in prize money.

The All-In Club’s single-day Php 1,000,000 guaranteed tournament took place on May 29 at the poker room’s location inside PAGCOR Cebu at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City. Buy-in for the event was Php 5,000 + Php 500.
